Business In Focus

Nth Degree Care
Nth Degree Care

Nth Degree Care is a family business owned by sister in laws Julianne and Sue Brennan. They established their business in Turramurra just over three years ago as a result of needing products within their own family and finding the experience difficult.

We asked Julianne, how she and Sue decided on Turramurra to establish the business in. “ The major difficulty in establishing our business was in finding customer friendly premises with easy access and parking and with suitable floor space. We have over 200sq meters of showroom which we thought would be more than adequate when we set up the business however, three years down the track we would love to have even more space! So it was the premises that brought us to Turramurra’

Julianne and Sue believe in providing a very personalised service to their clients, including in home visits and free delivery to the local area, although many of their clients travel from well outside the northshore, due to the vast array of products they have to try in their showroom.

“Many of our clients don’t have family that can help them source products that can make their lives safer and easier, so they depend on us to help them. If we don’t stock the product they need then we will source it for them. There are thousands of items that can assist with the basics of daily living, and not all our customers are elderly, says Sue. We have a great range of electric adjustable beds that a lot of younger people are sourcing which allows them to read or watch TV comfortably in bed.”

Nth Degree Care also has a physiotherapist on staff available for advice if required, particularly for those undergoing hip or knee surgery. Sales, service and hire of products is available 6 days a week.

Julianne & Sue are active members of the Chamber of Commerce and host the monthly meetings in their well equipped showroom.

JB's Hair Design

JB’s Hair Design is an example of the type of friendly business that gives Turramurra its unique charm. JB’s has been operating in Turramurra for 24 years in a number of locations and is currently based in Rohini Street behind Michels patisserie.

We asked Jo about the changes that had taken place over the years in Turramurra “Well rents have certainly increased!! And I have seen a large number of younger families moving to the area, more shops start trading, more traffic of course and inadequate parking for both shoppers and commuters.”
Like many small businesses in the area Jo relies on both local shoppers and shoppers from out of the area and sees parking as one of the major issues for Turramurra businesses. Jo has been participating in the Ku ring Gai Council Parking workshops in an endeavour to improve the situation.

Jo Nichol operates a very successful hairdressing salon thanks to the talented, friendly and professional staff, many of whom have been working at the salon for a substantial amount of the 24 years.

Jo says that “providing a high level of service and expertise in areas such as colouring, cutting, perming and children’s’ haircuts –is the key to her success as well as providing value for money.

For the past 24 years JB’s Hair Design has been associated with the Turramurra Chamber of Commerce which according to Jo “has always kept the salon well informed of the issues related to the Turramurra business and local neighbourhood community, including progress with the proposed Turramurra Town Centre Planning.”

If you are new to the area or in need of a new hairdresser and would like to know more about the area then I can think of no better place to start than with a relaxing hair cut and chat with Jo or one of her staff.
